Try Me Recipe: Caffeine-Free Chai Latte

Caffeine-Free Chai Latte

If you're like me, you've got a hot drink in your hand every morning. My personal choice of beverage is a big mug of straight-up drip coffee; from fresh-ground beans (of course). Sometimes I'll add some cream or a couple drops of stevia, but typically I have it black. Then I make my way through the rest of the morning.

Although some health and fitness enthusiasts would scoff at my intake of caffeine, I find my morning coffee ritual to be soothing and I never drink more than a few cups a day and never past 10am.

However, there are times in the afternoon, somewhere around mid-day, that I crave that warm comfort. So, I usually opt for an herbal tea. But tea, well... tea feels "light" to me and lacks the bold taste I seek.

Then I found this recipe...

Served hot, it has a bold and satisfying flavor and no caffeine. [BONUS] It even has protein, fiber and heart-healthy fats! I top it with a dash of cinnamon or cardamom for an extra kick.

Caffeine-Free Chai Latte

Serves 2

1-2 bag(s) of rooibos chai tea (rooibos is naturally caffeine-free) 2.5 cups of boiling water 1 tablespoon tahini 1 tablespoon almond butter (creamy is preferred) 2 dates (pitted)

Cover the teabag and dates ) with 2 cups of boiling water and steep for a few minutes.

Discard the tea bag & place tea, soaked dates, tahini & almond butter into a blender.

Blend until creamy (DO NOT "seal-shut" the lid of your blender as you blend your beverage. The steam from the hot liquid will create pressure and can explode into a hot -if not painful- mess if you're not careful).

On'ce you've safey blended the ingredients till creamy, serve in your favorite mug (add a dash of cinnamon, cardamom, or nutmeg) and Enjoy!

Tip: You can try this with other nut or seed butters to see which flavor combination you like the best. I'm thinking of trying it with Cashew butter next time!
